Against the background of the pro-Palestinian demonstrations across campuses in the US, actor David Schwimmer attacked his peers in the industry, saying that "if it had been any other minority group, the reaction would have been outrage and immediate action."
The star of the "Friends" series uploaded a post to his Instagram account in which Jewish students are seen being attacked as part of anti-Israel demonstrations on campuses across America at the beginning of the week
In a poignant text that he attached to the hard-to-watch photos, he wrote to his approximately 9 million followers: "Jewish students across America are experiencing the worst attacks on their rights, dignity and safety [that I have ever seen] in my lifetime. While some of the demonstrations are peaceful, the general atmosphere is one of pervasive harassment, intimidation, segregation, hate speech, threats, and acts of real violence."
"If this were any other minority group the response would have been immediate outrage and action. And yet this antisemitism grows, spreading from middle school to high school to college campuses nationwide…"
Schwimmer attached to the post excerpts from a speech by Eden Yadgar, a Jewish student from Columbia University, who spoke as part of the congressional hearing held for university officials - including University President Dr. Minouche Shafik, who refused to call the demonstrations antisemitic.
This is not the first time that Schwimmer has expressed his opinion regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, referring to the antisemitism that is disguised under manifestations of anti-Israelism. Immediately after the October 7th attack, he shared a poignant post in which he called the massacre the biggest antisemitic event since the Holocaust.
In December, the actor launched a sharp attack against heads of Ivy League schools after a congressional hearing in which they were asked to label displays of hatred on their campuses as antisemitic, but refused to do so.
"106 Democrats refused to denounce the drastic increase in antisemitism in the US and around the world. 92 of them were present at the vote. Apparently they were present in their bodies, but left their moral compass and conscience at home. Silence is cooperation," he wrote in a post he published along with photos from the hearing.
Schwimmer also published the New York Times investigation which revealed the severe sexual abuse against Israeli women during the brutal terrorist attack.
Schwimmer exposed the hypocrisy and two-facedness of women's organizations around the world when it comes to sexual violence against Israelis: "People will believe anyone who has been sexually assaulted and will fight for them - unless they're Jews," he wrote.
