France24: Man attempting to set fire to Rouen synagogue shot by police after threatening them

According to reports, the would-be arsonist was also brandishing weapons and was killed by police after threatening them with his knife.

A man attempting to set fire to a synagogue in Rouen was fatally shot by police, after he approached them with a knife, according to France24 News.

According to the report, police arrived at the synagogue following a report of a fire near the building. There, the suspected arsonist, who was armed with a knife and iron bar, approached the police, who fatally shot him.

The identity of the suspect is unknown at this time.

Rouen Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol posted on X that: "It is not only the Jewish community that is affected. It is the entire city of Rouen that is bruised and in shock."

Yonathan Arfi, the president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF), posted on X that:

"Attempting to burn a synagogue is an attempt to intimidate all Jews. Once again, there is an attempt to impose a climate of terror on the Jews of our country. Combating anti-Semitism means defending the Republic"
