Trump's 1,300-word attack on Bill Maher
US president breaks his own record with extraordinary social-media post slamming the comedian after Maher criticized him on air
The attack came after Maher claimed on his show that Trump is suffering from unusually low approval ratings, and joked about their shared meal at the White House. "Let's talk about this total loser, Bill Maher," Trump wrote, also calling him a "con artist" and "not a nice person."
Trump addressed at length their two meetings at the White House, claiming Maher was tense during the first encounter. "He asked for a drink, was insecure, and had serious bruising around his eye and nose, as if someone beat him up, but it wasn't me," he wrote.
Of the most recent meeting, the president said: "He looked terrible," and claimed Maher was drunk. According to Trump, contrary to the host's claim, the meal lasted only about two hours, not four. "I didn't learn anything from him and felt it was a waste of time," he added.
Trump also accused Maher of using a laugh machine on his show: "Turn off your laugh machine. It's a joke when they laugh uncontrollably even when you're not saying anything funny."
Maher has not yet responded to the attack. The post broke Trump's previous record and was about 600 words longer than the second-longest post he has published.
