A 53-year-old father in South Africa became a viral hero after dashcam footage showed him protecting his daughter during an armed ambush outside their home in Pinetown, near Durban. Sidney Hill managed to kill one of the attackers and drive off the others in a dramatic exchange of gunfire.
The incident unfolded as Hill was leaving his home in his vehicle with his children. A car suddenly blocked their path, and several armed suspects inside opened fire on the family.
Hill drew his handgun and returned fire while using his own body to shield his daughter, who was sitting beside him. According to reports, approximately 27 rounds were fired in just 14 seconds.
One of the suspects was killed, and the others fled the scene. A local police spokesman confirmed that an investigation has been opened following the incident. "The suspects opened fire, and the victim returned fire, fatally wounding one of the suspects. The remaining suspects fled in their vehicle," he said.
The dashcam footage went viral and drew widespread praise for the father. Andreas Mathios, a senior official at a local security company, said: "This man is a hero. First of all, he instinctively saw to the safety of his family. He managed to return fire and neutralize the threat."
