MK: Netanyahu will go with Eisenkot

Limor Son Har-Melech of the Religious Zionism party warns that Prime Minister Netanyahu may form a government with Gadi Eisenkot after the election and says the move could happen even if the right-wing bloc wins a majority

MK Limor Son Har-Melech warned Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may choose to form a government with Yashar! party chairman Gadi Eisenkot after the upcoming election. In an interview with Mati Tuchfeld on the afternoon news program, she said the scenario could play out not only if the right-wing bloc fails to secure a majority, but as Netanyahu's preferred choice from the outset.

"There is a very great concern about what we are seeing from all kinds of irresponsible and arrogant parties that can allow themselves to bring down the national bloc, the right-wing bloc, while they continue to run, when they know what the results will be," Son Har-Melech said.

She argued that if those parties continue their campaigns, they could create a situation in which Netanyahu would be able to justify forming a government with Eisenkot rather than one based on the right-wing bloc.

"The prime minister will have enough excuses to say, "I had to go with Eisenkot." We see the reports and hear the voices, and you don't need to be very smart to know where this is going," she added.

But as the interview continued, it became clear that Son Har-Melech's concern was not limited to a scenario in which Netanyahu would struggle to secure a majority for a right-wing government.

Interviewer Mati Tuchfeld pressed her on whether she believed Netanyahu would turn to Eisenkot only out of political necessity, or whether it was a move he might prefer in advance.

"When you say the prime minister will go with Eisenkot, do you mean from the outset or only if he doesn't have a majority, if the right doesn't have a majority?" Tuchfeld asked.

Son Har-Melech replied: "I think that will be the reality from the outset, because whoever listens to the briefings and knows, recognizes the language and knows the terminology."
