The State Attorney's Office submitted to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court an indictment against eight female students, aged 19-23, residents of Beit Shemesh, Jerusalem, Beitar Ilit and Sderot, after they paid another female student to impersonate them and take English proficiency tests at the various academic institutions.
According to the indictment, filed through the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, during the years 2022-2023 the accused were students at various academic institutions and were required to take a national English proficiency test for undergraduate students (the Amiram test). The accused were registered, each separately, for the Amiram tests , but instead of being tested themselves, another student was tested fraudulently and by impersonation and forgery, for a payment transferred to her in the total amount of thousands of shekels.
Her name passed by word of mouth among female students, including the accused, as someone who is willing to fraudulently take an exam on behalf of other female students for a fee. The defendants, each one separately, contacted her and asked her to fraudulently take the test in their place. The student used to explain to them that the chance of being caught as an imposter is low, since the level of checking the identity of the examinees is low. After finding that there was a basic similarity between her appearance and the photo of the examinee on the identity card, she agreed with the students on the details of the test and the payment, and took the test fraudulently.
The indictment charges the defendants with the offenses of assisting impersonation, forgery and receiving something fraudulently. At the same time, the public prosecutor's office informed the main suspect that she is being considered for prosecution, subject to a hearing, on suspicion of the crimes of impersonation, forgery and fraudulently receiving something.
