Bloody Knife on the Pavement
Horror in Bat Yam: Son Suspected of Killing His Mother Before Jumping to His Death
A peaceful Sunday morning in Bat Yam was shattered when a man allegedly stabbed his 74 year old mother to death and then jumped from their apartment window, leaving a bloodied knife and a traumatized neighborhood behind.

A Grim Discovery at Dawn
The emergency began in the early hours of the morning when Magen David Adom (MDA) received a frantic report of a man lying unconscious on the road at the entrance of a residential building. Paramedics Ron Avizov, Ariel Wasserstein, and Michael Mankov arrived to find Mark Garmider, a man in his 50s, in critical condition with no pulse or breath. Lying on the pavement next to him was a blood stained knife.
While Mark was rushed to Wolfson Hospital in Holon under ongoing resuscitation efforts, he was later pronounced dead. Police officers on the scene immediately led medical teams to the family’s nearby apartment. Inside, they found Valentina Garmider lying unconscious with multiple stab wounds to her body. Despite the efforts of the first responders, she was declared dead at the scene.
“He’s Back”: A Neighborhood in Disbelief
The investigation suggests that Mark Garmider, who lived with his mother and had a prior criminal record, stabbed Valentina to death before leaping from the apartment window to end his own life. The brutality of the act has stunned the local community, as neighbors described the pair as a quiet family.
One neighbor shared a chilling account of how the scene was discovered by her child. "My son was leaving for school and suddenly he screams at me, 'Mom! Mom! There is a dead man down here, come down quickly!'" she told reporters. She expressed total disbelief at the violence, noting that there had been no signs of trouble or previous shouting matches between the mother and son. "We are in total shock, she was a good woman. They weren't a family of trouble, it’s just unfathomable."
The Investigation Continues
Large police forces cordoned off the area to collect evidence and speak with witnesses. Detectives confirmed that the bloodied knife found on the street near Mark is believed to be the murder weapon. While Mark was known to police for various past offenses, there were no immediate reports of domestic violence leading up to this morning's events.
As the community grapples with the loss, the focus remains on the tragic end of a woman described by everyone who knew her as kind and gentle. Forensic teams remain at the apartment to piece together the final moments before the leap, as the city of Bat Yam mourns a senseless loss of life on its streets.
