The Amshinov Hasidic community has issued an unequivocal and vehement denial following reports suggesting that the Amshinov Rebbe, Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Milikowsky, permits Jews to ascend the Temple Mount (Har HaBayis) in modern times.

The firestorm erupted across the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) world after an internal transcript of a private study session was leaked and subsequently framed by national-religious activists as a groundbreaking halachic shift.

The Source of the Storm

The controversy began when the internal Amshinov journal, Yera VeSimcha, published a transcript of a theoretical, halachic dialogue between the Rebbe and his son, Rabbi Moshe Milikowsky. The conversation centered around the complexities of bringing the Shtei HaLechem (the two loaves of bread offering) on Shavuos without a standing Temple.

During the exchange, the Rebbe noted a technical halachic point: according to standard Torah law, the outer perimeters of the Temple Mount hold the status of Machaneh Leviyah (the Levite Camp). From a purely theoretical standpoint, someone who has immersed in a mikvah to remove specific types of ritual impurity is technically permitted to step onto the outermost boundary of that zone.

When his son asked explicitly, "Is it forbidden to ascend the Temple Mount today?" the Rebbe replied, "The Temple Mount itself is permitted for a person who is impure to enter. Only the ‘army’ [the inner, sacred courtyards] behind the Temple Mount is prohibited." He clarified that this applies only to the very beginning of the perimeter, noting that "the Western Wall is connected to the wall of the Temple Mount."

Activists Claim a "Breakthrough"

Though the conversation was entirely academic, right-wing national-religious activists and Temple Mount organizations quickly seized upon the text. Headlines circulated claiming that a major, highly respected Haredi Admor had practically sanctioned visiting parts of the holy site, a move that would break sharply from the ironclad Haredi consensus.

For decades, the mainstream Haredi rabbinate, including the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, has strictly forbidden any entry to the Temple Mount due to the severe spiritual gravity of accidentally stepping into the inner sanctums, an act punishable by Karet (spiritual excision).

The Amshinov Court Responds

As the rumors intensified, leading to immense pressure and confusion within the ultra-Orthodox community, the Rebbe's court moved swiftly to squash the narrative.

Family members and community representatives released an urgent clarification, expressing shock over how the text was weaponized. They emphasized three critical points:

The Amshinov leadership condemned the deliberate distortion of the Rebbe's words, calling the practical application of the transcript entirely false and misleading.
