Argentina defeats Switzerland 3-1 in extra time, advances to World Cup semifinals
Argentina has defeated Switzerland 3-1 after extra time in their World Cup quarterfinal in Kansas. McAllister gave Argentina an early lead in the 10th minute from a Messi assist. Switzerland equalized through Ndoye in the 67th minute. In the 72nd minute, VAR intervened and the referee issued a second yellow card to Embolo, sending him off. The match went to extra time, where Julián scored to make it 2-1 for Argentina in the 112th minute. Lautaro sealed the victory with a third goal in the 121st minute. The world champions advance to the semifinals to face England, while Switzerland is eliminated.
