Chareidi IDF soldiers build sukkos in Lebanon combat zones

While thousands of families across Israel prepare for Sukkos at home, chareidi soldiers in the Netzah Yehuda Brigade (formerly Nahal Chareidi) and the Kfir Brigade are building sukkos in the field, some of them deep inside Lebanon. Documentation from the front shows the soldiers constructing their sukkos for Yom Tov far from home and in the heart of the combat zone.

Soldiers in Netzah Yehuda, the IDF's chareidi brigade, are preparing to keep the mitzvos of the chag even under difficult field conditions. The sukkos are being erected across the various sectors where the brigade operates, with the soldiers balancing operational missions and preparations for Yom Tov.

Kfir Brigade soldiers are also putting up sukkos in the field. Some of the soldiers are stationed deep inside Lebanon, where they are building the sukkos while continuing operational activity against Hezbollah. The footage from the field shows the soldiers working on the sukkos, attempting to preserve their chareidi way of life even under wartime conditions.

Netzah Yehuda, which was established to allow chareidi young men to serve in the army while maintaining their lifestyle, is careful to provide halachic support for its soldiers even in the field. As Staff Sergeant Moshe Bruchim, head of the chareidi recruitment section in the brigade, has said, the military system seeks to create a "bubble" that guarantees an uncompromising halachic framework for the chareidi recruit.

Preparations for the chag in the field include not only building the sukkos but also arranging for the arba minim and other Yom Tov needs. The soldiers are preparing to fulfill the mitzvos of the chag in full while continuing their operational missions in the sectors where they are deployed.
