A covert investigation that turned public: Northern District Police fraud investigators arrested a 65-year-old municipal council employee from Gush Halav on suspicion of installing covert listening devices inside the office of the local authority head.
The case began several weeks ago when police received a formal complaint from the local council expressing serious concern that municipal offices had been compromised with illegal monitoring and surveillance equipment.
Following the report, the Northern Fraud Unit launched a covert investigation in close cooperation with authorized officials within the council. During the operation, investigators located technological findings on site that confirmed and even strengthened the suspicions.
The investigation moved to a new phase on Tuesday evening when detectives raided the council offices shortly after a meeting concluded at the location, arresting the suspect in the act.
Police stated that a search conducted on his person and in his possession uncovered additional evidence directly linking him to commission of the offense.
The suspect was brought to Tiberias Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning, where police are requesting an extension of his detention to continue investigative operations.
Police spokespersons said the investigation into the circumstances and motive behind the act is ongoing.
