Delay in Appointment of Incoming Military Advocate General

The incoming Military Advocate General (MAG), Adv. Itay Ofir, did not assume his post today, despite earlier announcements by Defense Minister Katz that his start date would be November 24, 2025. Meanwhile, the Military Prosecution has been operating for several weeks without a permanent commander. Aluf Dado Bar Kalifa, head of the Manpower Directorate (Akha), continues as the de facto commanding authority over the unit. Alongside him, Tat-Aluf Roni Katzir, former head of the International Law Division at the Military Prosecution, serves as acting deputy MAG and effectively holds the MAG’s legal powers, making decisions on operational legal matters. According to informed sources, Katzir has been deliberately refraining from ruling on major cases pending the MAG’s arrival.
