Hamas Announces Khalil al-Hayya as New Leader
Hamas has officially announced Khalil al-Hayya as the new leader of its political bureau, replacing Yahya Sinwar. Sinwar assumed the position following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in July 2024 and served until his own assassination. Al-Hayya has been serving as acting leader since Sinwar's death. The announcement follows reported elections in which al-Hayya faced Khaled Mashal in a contested leadership race.
