Iran says US refused compensation demands, threatens Strait of Hormuz closure

A senior Iranian official told Al Jazeera that messages were exchanged between Tehran and Washington through Egypt and Turkey as a goodwill gesture to reduce tensions. The official stated that the US President lacks authority to set conditions or impose deadlines for negotiations. Washington has refused two Iranian demands: payment of compensation and recognition of responsibility for aggression. Iran maintains the option to close the Strait of Hormuz and lay mines in response to any reckless US action.
