Iran targets ships in Strait of Hormuz, forces vessels to turn back
Iran's Broadcasting Authority reports that six ships attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz via the southern route were intercepted early this morning after turning off their navigation systems. One ship was involved in an "incident"—Iranian code for an attack—while the remaining vessels were forced to turn back to the Persian Gulf. Iran claims the ships used an "illegal and unsafe route" and asserts that only Iran's officially designated transit route is valid for passage through the strategic waterway.
