Thirty-seven people were killed in Ukraine when a military ammunition storage facility exploded in a residential area, with most of the victims being residents of a nearby nursing home. The incident occurred on August 28, 2026, in the village of Myla in the Vyshhorod district of the Kyiv region, according to reports.

The tragedy began when a Russian drone struck the military storage facility directly. The initial impact triggered a devastating chain reaction of secondary explosions as shells, mines, and unmanned aerial vehicles stored at the site detonated one after another. The resulting shockwaves and blasts destroyed the adjacent nursing home, killing dozens of its elderly residents.

Video footage released after the incident captured the moment of the depot's explosion and the extensive destruction in the surrounding area. The footage, which circulated on social media, showed the force of the secondary blasts that devastated the neighborhood and left severe damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded sharply to the tragedy, stating that such facilities must not be positioned near civilian populations. "After what happened in Vyshhorod, another incident like this is completely unacceptable," the president said, adding that "ammunition depots of the defense forces simply should not be located in residential areas."

The incident adds to a series of similar cases during the war in which military installations located near residential zones have become targets for Russian attacks.
