Chagai Segal, a right-wing commentator and father of political analyst Amit Segal, said Sunday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bears responsibility for the October 7 massacre, while questioning the credibility of reports that the premier received advance warnings from the United Arab Emirates.
"Netanyahu, by virtue of his position, is the number one person responsible for the October 7 failure," Segal wrote. "And after we've written this for the who-knows-how-many-th time, it's also permitted to say that the entire story about the Qatari or Egyptian warning is one of the biggest fakes in the history of Israeli media, and at best an extreme and propagandistic taking of things out of context."
About a year ago, his son Amit was asked on the 'Call Me Back' podcast, hosted by Dan Senor, how much responsibility Netanyahu bears for the October 7 war. He answered "more than 50%."
The younger Segal laid out three reasons: "One, he was prime minister at the time of Hamas's massacre attack. Two, he was prime minister for nearly 13 years before the attack, so he's essentially the one who shaped the Israeli policy that led to October 7."
"And the third reason," Segal added, "is because you can't claim to be in the position if you don't bear responsibility for the most dramatic event in the State of Israel. So there's no doubt that Netanyahu bears the lion's share of responsibility for October 7."
