Russia’s Envoy: Iran Cooperating with IAEA—But Not on Inspections

Russia’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said Iran has agreed to host a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), led by Director General Rafael Grossi. However, the visit is not intended for inspections of nuclear sites but rather to coordinate future oversight work. “The Iranians are behaving in a very reasonable manner,” Ulyanov claimed. “This visit is not about monitoring specific facilities, especially given the concerns over potential radioactive and chemical contamination. It’s about deciding how to better organize cooperation.” Ulyanov reaffirmed Russia’s position that Iran has the right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy, including uranium enrichment. “Questioning this right is completely absurd,” he said.
