Samaria Resident Arrested for Forging Mezuzah Scrolls
A 56-year-old man from Samaria was arrested on suspicion of impersonating a certified Sofer STaM (scribe of Torah scrolls, tefillin, and mezuzahs) and selling hundreds of invalid mezuzahs. According to police, the suspect allegedly used a home printer to mass-produce the mezuzahs, which are required by Jewish law to be handwritten by qualified scribes. During a search of the suspect’s residence, authorities seized a computer containing hundreds of digital files for printing sacred texts, as well as the printer used in the alleged forgeries. The suspect was taken in for questioning and released under restrictive conditions pending further investigation.
