U.S. launches third round of strikes against Iran after vessel attack
U.S. Central Command forces have begun their third round of strikes this week against Iran following an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attack on the container ship GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. A civilian crew member is missing, and the ship cannot continue its voyage due to a fire on deck and significant engine room damage. The U.S. states Iran was given opportunities to demonstrate adherence to agreements after previous attacks on commercial vessels but failed to do so. The strikes aim to diminish Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships in the strait, conducted under presidential direction.
