U.S. Senate Blocks M16 Sale to Israel

In a significant vote late last night, 27 Democratic senators supported a resolution in the U.S. Senate to block the sale of M16 rifles to Israel’s Ministry of National Security. The measure passed, signaling growing concerns among some lawmakers over Israel’s internal security policies. However, a second resolution aimed at halting the sale of 5,000 bombs for Israeli fighter jets failed to pass. Only 24 Democratic senators voted in favor, while a decisive majority of 72 senators—both Republicans and Democrats—voted against it, allowing the arms deal to proceed. The votes reflect a deepening divide within the Democratic Party over military aid to Israel .
