U.S. Warns Lebanon of Missed Opportunities
American diplomatic sources told Sky News Arabia that Lebanon has “lost the chance for a solution,” warning that the country risks deepening political and economic collapse. According to the officials, efforts to stabilize Lebanon—including a voluntary, comprehensive Hezbollah disarmament plan backed by billions in Gulf investments and security arrangements inspired by the Abraham Accords—have “reached a dead end.” Sources said Beirut’s current leadership has preferred maintaining the status quo, leaving Lebanon “paralyzed and subject to external actors,” and ensuring it remains a failed state. “The moment of change brought by President Trump has already passed,” they added. U.S. officials stressed that Lebanon is now “the only country in the region harboring a foreign terrorist organization on its soil,” and warned that the refusal to address Hezbollah’s arsenal will continue to erode state institutions. While the U.S. “hopes for the best for Lebanon,” it is “preparing for the worst.”
