Senior UN Official to Leave Israel Following Anti-Israel Statements

A senior United Nations official, Jonathan Whittall, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the region, will be leaving Israel after the Foreign Minister, Yoav Sa’ar, ordered the cessation of his activities and decided not to renew his residency permit. Whittall, who divides his time between Jerusalem and Gaza, made recent statements criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing the situation there as “conditions created to kill,” calling it a “massacre,” and alleging that hunger is being used as a weapon and that Palestinian lives are being erased. Following these remarks, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that Whittall will end his role and depart the country in the near future.
