Flood Watch Issued for NYC as Major Storm Looms

The US National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for New York City and surrounding areas beginning Thursday at 2 PM, warning of the potential for localized flash flooding during the evening commute. Mayor Eric Adams has declared a Travel Advisory for both Thursday and Friday, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to prepare for possible road closures and waterlogged streets. "We're preparing for a serious storm tomorrow evening," Adams said. "Roads may become flooded during the evening commute. Avoid traveling if you can." City officials are advising residents in low-lying areas to take precautionary measures now, including activating emergency alerts on their phones, checking flood zone maps, and deploying flood prevention tools. Basement residents in flood-prone neighborhoods are strongly encouraged to move to higher ground ahead of time.
