Israel Urges U.S. to Delay Gaza Reconstruction
Israel has asked the United States not to launch reconstruction efforts in Gaza until on-the-ground actions demonstrate Hamas’s readiness to disarm, Israeli officials say. One of the key issues currently under discussion with Washington is the neutralization of Hamas’s tunnel network. Israel has expressed its desire for all tunnels across Gaza to be sealed under Israeli supervision — extending beyond areas currently under its control. According to the report, the U.S. administration is proposing to begin with a pilot project in Rafah, an idea to which Israel has given a preliminary green light.
