Malaysia Offers to Send Peacekeepers to Gaza

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced his country’s readiness to contribute troops to a potential UN peacekeeping mission in Gaza, in coordination with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and like-minded nations. The statement came during Anwar’s meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. “Malaysia reiterates its firm position in support of the Palestinian struggle and welcomes the consistent stance of the United Nations and the International Court of Justice that Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid in Gaza violates international law,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement. Anwar added that his talks with Guterres focused on strengthening cooperation between Malaysia and the UN, including the ASEAN-UN partnership framework.
