US considers taking control of Iran's Kharg Island oil export hub

The Trump administration is considering taking control of Kharg Island, from which Iran exports more than 90% of its oil, according to Reuters. The report comes as the US plans to deploy thousands of Marines to the Middle East. Iran's Revolutionary Guard-affiliated Tasnim news agency responded with warnings, claiming any attack on Kharg Island would trigger an unprecedented response and lead Iran to destabilize the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait. An Iranian military source quoted by Tasnim stated the situation for Americans would become "much more complicated" than the current tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
