Cabinet official defends Chief of Staff's conscription law remarks

A senior cabinet official responded to media reports, stating the Chief of Staff's actual remarks were the opposite of what opposition members claimed. According to the official, the Chief of Staff warned that delays in passing the Conscription Law, extending compulsory service to 36 months, and amending the Reserve Forces Law would prevent the IDF from fulfilling its missions. The official said all cabinet members support completing these three laws currently before committee, and blamed legal advisory staff for opposing them. The statement noted that opposition leaders Bennett, Lapid, and Eisenkot now support the government's Conscription Law that the Chief of Staff urged the committee to pass urgently.
