Adam Brody, who plays a rabbi on Netflix's hit series "Nobody Wants This," has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. It is the first time he has spoken publicly about the war that began with Hamas' October 7 massacre.
"Put me down as thinking it's a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine," Brody told GQ. He added that he hopes a future U.S. administration will reverse policies he believes are making the situation worse.
The comments came in an interview focused on Brody's political activity, including his canvassing for Democratic candidates ahead of the midterm elections. Asked whether Hollywood has become more conservative, Brody said the pandemic, Trump's second term and the Israel-Gaza war had "brought out some different beliefs that I was ignorant to, and then disheartened by."
Brody said the war had rarely come up in his recent interviews. "I have spoken a lot about it privately. I haven't spoken much about it publicly," he said.
The interview comes ahead of the third season of "Nobody Wants This," which premieres on Netflix on October 22. Brody stars opposite Kristen Bell as Rabbi Noah Roklov, a devoted young rabbi who falls in love with a non-Jewish podcast host. The role earned him a 2025 Emmy nomination and the Critics Choice Award for best comedy actor.
His remarks stand in sharp contrast to the creators of the show. Sisters Erin and Sara Foster have spoken out in support of Israel and Jewish communities throughout the war. Erin Foster has said it was important to her to tell positive Jewish stories, and that the series is not the place to take on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Brody joins a small group of well-known Jewish actors who have used the word "genocide" to describe the war, including Wallace Shawn and "Hacks" star Hannah Einbinder. Einbinder was arrested Thursday during a protest in New York against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the United Nations.
