Attorney David Pater, who has become a prominent legal voice associated with Israel's political right, may be entering electoral politics. Advanced discussions are underway regarding a reserved position for Pater on the Likud party's Knesset list, according to reports. While Pater's name surfaced approximately two months ago as a potential candidate for such a reserved slot by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the possibility is now gaining momentum, though no final decision has been made.
In recent years, Pater has represented the government, the prime minister, and various ministers in multiple Supreme Court proceedings where they received separate legal representation apart from the Attorney General's office. According to journalist Moti Kastel, Netanyahu is currently holding a series of meetings to finalize the names for reserved positions on his list.
The prime minister has postponed the Likud secretariat meeting to maintain flexibility until the last possible moment, though campaign videos with some candidates have already been filmed. Other names under consideration include Dr. Keren Asayag, with whom Netanyahu has already filmed a video but is considering for a different party role, as well as Yifat Ben Hai Segev and others.
