Railway staff get stranded soldier home

After missing the last train from Be'er Sheva, an exhausted soldier returning from two weeks in a closed base found herself alone on the platform, until station workers, led by manager Avichai Ben Hor, coordinated trains across the network to bring her home to Binyamina

Be'er Sheva Railway Station

A young soldier finishing two straight weeks of service in a closed base in Eilat finally set out for home. She was meant to reach her family, but an accident on the route caused major delays, and her bus was held up for over an hour.

When she arrived at the Be'er Sheva railway station, she discovered the delay had caused her to miss the last train north toward Binyamina. After two intensive weeks on base, exhausted and waiting only to get home, she found herself stranded at the station with no clear way forward.

An Israel Railways employee noticed the soldier crying on the platform. Instead of simply continuing with her work, she approached, spoke with her, embraced her, and even offered to let her sleep at her private home so she would not be left alone at the station.

But the soldier explained that she very much wanted to reach her family. That is when the station manager, Avichai Ben Hor, entered the picture. Avichai decided to do everything possible to find a solution. He personally called the soldier's parents, reassured them, and informed them he was taking care of her until she arrived home.

At that point what amounted to a small operation by the railway staff began: the team at the station worked to find a way to continue the journey, and at stations along the route connecting trains were coordinated so the soldier could continue her trip north and ultimately reach Binyamina.

This was not only about a train, timetables or a ticket. It was about people who saw before their eyes an exhausted soldier who had fallen into a difficult situation, and simply decided to help. An employee who offers her home, a station manager who calls the parents, and an entire team that tries to find a solution and bring her home.
