Australian Police: Bombs Found Near Attack Site of Deadly Shooting
Ten are dead and dozens injured in the Chanuka party attack. Australian police in their briefing now say there have been improvised explosive devices (IEDs) found on site.

Australian police said Sunday that improvised explosive devices were found near the site of the deadly shooting in Bondi, as authorities continued to investigate what they described as a complex and evolving security incident.
New South Wales Police Commissioner David Lanyon told reporters that it was “way too early” to provide details about the firearms used in the attack, beyond confirming that the weapons were long arms. He said investigators are still working to determine where the firearms originated and how they came into the attackers’ possession.
Lanyon said police located a vehicle on Campbell Parade, close to the scene of the shooting, which they believe contained “several improvised explosive devices.” A police rescue bomb disposal unit was dispatched to the area and remained on site to assess and neutralize the threat.
According to Lanyon, the explosive device or devices found in the vehicle were “linked to the deceased offender,” though he declined to elaborate on the nature of that connection or whether the devices were intended to be used during the attack.
Police have not said whether the explosives were functional, nor whether they were timed, remotely triggered, or designed for detonation at the scene. Authorities also did not confirm whether additional suspects are being sought, stressing that the investigation remains active.
The discovery of the explosives has raised further concerns about the scope and planning behind the attack, which took place during a Jewish event in the Bondi Beach area and left multiple people dead and wounded.
Lanyon said police are proceeding cautiously and urged the public to avoid speculation as investigators work through forensic evidence, witness accounts, and security footage.
The incident remains under investigation by counterterrorism and organized crime units, with authorities indicating that further updates will be provided as confirmed information becomes available.
