In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, Argentina has lifted its longstanding restriction on Israeli airlines, paving the way for direct flights between Tel Aviv and Buenos Aires. The move was confirmed Friday night by Argentina’s Ambassador to Israel, Axel Wahnish.

The official announcement is expected to coincide with the upcoming state visit of Argentine President Javier Milei to Israel on June 11. According to Wahnish, the new air route will be operated by El Al and is expected to reduce travel time to approximately 15–16 hours.

"This is a turning point," Wahnish stated. "It will create economic, touristic, and cultural incentives. Symbolically, it represents the deepening bond between our two nations."

President Milei, known for his strong pro-Israel stance, previously visited the region and met with communities affected by the October 7 attacks. Just last week, it was reported that he accepted an invitation from Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana to address the Israeli parliament during his upcoming trip.

The deepening ties are part of Milei’s broader geopolitical realignment, signaling closer cooperation with democratic allies and reaffirming Argentina’s commitment to Israel. During a previous meeting in Buenos Aires, Ohana and Milei also held a private discussion and met with families of Israeli hostages.

Direct flights are expected to provide a major boost in connectivity, strengthening bilateral relations and fostering increased business and tourism between the two countries.
