Benjamin Netanyahu Has a Method

It isn’t especially sophisticated, but it works like clockwork - and that’s exactly the problem.

In one version of the script, Netanyahu launches a fierce - but ultimately theatrical - battle against “the left.” He uses it to inflame the public, stir up a sense of existential threat, and solidify his image as the sole protector of Jewish statehood from those supposedly trying to dismantle it from within. Yet, just as the fight with the left reaches its climax, we see a quiet concession or calming gesture toward Hamas. In the other version, Netanyahu wages war on Hamas: combative rhetoric, airstrikes, dramatic slogans. But once again, just as tensions hit their peak, there’s a sudden shift - a ceasefire, a backchannel deal, or a calculated pause. Sometimes, even as this unfolds, Netanyahu begins aligning with liberal sectors and bureaucratic elites he had only recently condemned.

These two tracks - the war on the left and the war on Hamas - are never resolved. They operate in parallel, carefully calibrated, and always engineered to give the impression that something is happening - without anything truly changing.

Some may call this political brilliance, especially given his survival after October 7. But what’s certain is that both versions share a single underlying logic: choreographed confrontation to preserve power. The public remains trapped in a loop of illusion, where every apparent advance serves to distract from a retreat, and every supposed victory hides a deeper surrender.

In this context, perhaps the real question is not just about the man at the top - but about the system that allows the performance to continue. Maybe it’s time to break the cycle and seek leadership that moves us toward real change, not the endless maintenance of fear, enemies, and theater.
