NAZA, a documentary presenting a harsh and contested picture of IDF soldiers' activity in the Gaza Strip, continues to generate controversy, and now at the box office as well. In just two days the film has taken in around €1.1 million (approximately $1.2 million) in Italy and reached first place in the country's daily box-office rankings.
On its way to the top, it overtook a particularly striking name: the re-release of "Avengers: Endgame".
Overtaking one of the biggest box-office hits in history
To understand the scale of the comparison, one needs to go back to 2019. "Avengers: Endgame" became a global phenomenon upon its release and broke a series of box-office records. The film took in close to $2.8 billion worldwide and even held for a time the title of highest-grossing film in history.
Now the Marvel film has returned to cinemas in a re-release, but in Italy, NAZA has managed to overtake it in the daily rankings. On its second day of screening, NAZA took in around €623,000, compared with around €177,000 for "Endgame".
