A 52-year-old resident of Jerusalem's Old City was arrested Monday on suspicion of setting fire to a sukkah near Agrippas Street in the center of the city. Police say the attack, which took place during Sukkos, was racially motivated.
According to the Israel Police spokesperson, a report of a sukkah fire in the Agrippas area was received on Sunday. Investigators from the Lev HaBirah station opened a focused inquiry after suspicions arose that the blaze had been deliberately set.
Swift investigative work by officers led to the identification and arrest of the suspect on Monday. He was questioned at the station on suspicion of arson driven by racial hatred.
