Cargo Vessel Sustains Minor Bridge Damage in Armed Approach Off Yemen’s Balhaf Coast

A commercial vessel reported minor damage to its bridge after an encounter with a suspicious small craft carrying four armed individuals, including RPGs, approximately 76 nautical miles south of Balhaf, Yemen, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).The vessel’s crew was approached by the small craft while underway in the Gulf of Aden. An exchange involving the ship’s armed security team occurred, after which the suspicious craft departed the immediate area but remained active nearby, continuing to pose a potential threat to other vessels transiting the region.
