Critical Advice for Israelis Sheltering From Missiles
1. Keep a pair of shoes in your safe room – If you ever need to evacuate (on your own or with rescuers), walking barefoot—especially at night—can be dangerous. The ground is often covered in shattered glass and debris. 2. Prepare a grab-and-go bag – Include a change of clothes for a day or two, critical medications, passports, cash, important documents, and any personal essentials. In many cases, once evacuated, people are not allowed back into their homes for some time. 3. Pets – If you evacuate, please take your pets with you or inform the rescue teams that they’re inside. 4. Leave a note on your door – If you leave the apartment on your own, place a note with your name and phone number. This prevents rescue teams from breaking in unnecessarily. 5. Suggestion for the building committee – Consider creating an updated list of all residents, with phone numbers and the number of people in each apartment. This helps first responders quickly map out the building in an emergency.
