Tel Aviv District Police have made a significant breakthrough in investigating a violent attack that occurred in Or Yehuda last May, filing charges against a suspect who had been evading arrest for months.

The incident took place on May 26, when emergency dispatchers received multiple frantic calls from residents of the Neve Rabin neighborhood reporting loud explosions. When police and medical teams arrived at the scene, they discovered that a military-grade stun grenade had been thrown at an active business establishment where numerous civilians were present. Five innocent bystanders sustained varying degrees of injury from the blast and shrapnel, requiring immediate medical attention. The explosion also caused extensive property damage.

Given the severity of the attack—the use of military weaponry in a populated residential area and the injury to civilians—the investigation was assigned to the Central Unit of the Tel Aviv District Police. Investigators began collecting forensic evidence, analyzing technological resources, and gathering witness testimony while mapping criminal elements operating in the area.

The investigation resulted in the identification and arrest of several members of a criminal gang involved in a series of violent incidents using combat weapons, including the grenade attack on the business. Prosecutors have already filed serious indictments against those suspects based on solid evidence.

However, one key member of the criminal organization managed to escape immediately after the explosion. The 33-year-old Jaffa resident went underground and remained a fugitive for approximately four months, changing hiding places to avoid capture.

Detectives continued using focused intelligence gathering and covert surveillance to track him down. Last Friday, a breakthrough in the investigation enabled officers to locate and arrest the suspect. Following intensive questioning during his detention, prosecutors filed charges against him this week.

The State Attorney's Office is expected to submit a formal indictment and request that he be held in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
