Ofer Winter Launching New Political Party

vinter's list will feature no former Knesset members, focusing instead on fresh faces from outside the political establishment

Retired IDF Colonel Ofer Vinter is set to unveil his new political party this coming Tuesday, and sources have revealed that his candidate list will consist entirely of political newcomers, no one who has previously served in the Knesset, Israel's parliament, will be included.

The decision goes beyond mere optics, representing a foundational principle: presenting an alternative of individuals coming from outside the political system. The slate will include both men and women, secular and religious Jews, as well as non-Jewish citizens, with the goal of building a Zionist, populist-security party that appeals to broad segments of Israeli society.

Vinter's primary target audience is right-wing voters who are reluctant to support the current coalition parties, particularly in the wake of the October 7th attacks and ongoing debates surrounding the military draft law. According to most polls, existing right-wing players, including Bezalel Smotrich, Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Likud, have been unable to win back most of these voters independently.

Vinter therefore aims to present new figures who are already known to the Israeli public. Reports indicate that advanced discussions are underway with prominent figures in the right-wing camp, including senior advocacy activist Yoseph Haddad and Lali Darai, mother of the late Staff Sergeant Saadia Darai.

The issue of haredi (ultra-Orthodox) military conscription is expected to be one of the central topics where vinter's party will distinguish itself. Winter's approach holds that haredim who are not engaged in full-time Torah study should be drafted, but the path to achieving this runs through requiring the IDF to provide the haredi community with appropriate conditions and frameworks that preserve their way of life, not through demonizing haredi society. Vinter has stated in house meetings he's held across the country that building trust is the key to success, not political battles that serve political operatives or incite hatred.

Alongside this, Vinter has been promoting in recent months the concept of decisive military victory, arguing that Israel must decisively defeat its enemies rather than settling for conflict management.

In the current political reality, Vinter stakes out a clear position: he is a right-winger committed to the right-wing camp. Unlike other new figures entering the arena, Winter will not serve as a bridge to a government led by Gadi Eisenkot and will not enable scenarios that transfer power to the left.

If necessary, Vinter will be the 61st vote for Benjamin Netanyahu and the right. He is entering politics to strengthen the right-wing camp and restore lost votes. His goal is to change Israel's security doctrine and lead genuine integration of haredi society into the IDF and Israeli society at large.
