The Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet security service released intelligence findings Thursday indicating that Hamas operates interrogation and torture facilities inside Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, using the medical complex for security activities unrelated to healthcare.
According to Israeli military and intelligence officials, Hamas has identified declining public support among Gaza residents and fears losing its grip on the population. In response, the terror organization has reportedly intensified its internal security operations, attempting to maintain control through intimidation, interrogations and torture.
The intelligence indicates that interrogations by Hamas's internal security apparatus and military intelligence wing take place on the second floor of the hospital's outpatient clinic building, inside a structure called "Yassin."
Israeli officials say that the organization exploits the hospital compound as a governance center for interrogations, torture and revenue collection, activities entirely separate from the medical services provided at the facility.
According to the IDF and Shin Bet, Nasser Hospital continues to serve as a central Hamas infrastructure hub in southern Gaza. Patients and medical staff at the facility reportedly witness a constant presence of Hamas operatives in various areas of the hospital, with some members moving about wearing face coverings.
