A man was seriously injured on Saturday after he entered a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, England, and was attacked by the animal.
South Yorkshire Police said they received reports at 1:35 p.m. local time of a man entering the enclosure, and that the tiger then attacked him. The force said the tiger remained inside the enclosure throughout and that there was "no wider risk to the public."
The park was evacuated and officers stayed at the scene to investigate. Police said they were working to contact the man's family and would not release further details for now. He has not been named, and his current condition beyond "serious injury" has not been disclosed.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it was called at 1:33 p.m. and sent two land ambulances, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and a doctor.
In a statement, Yorkshire Wildlife Park confirmed a "serious incident" at the tiger enclosure and said it was working with the authorities to establish what happened. The park is closed and will stay closed on Sunday.
It is not yet known how the man got into the enclosure. Visitors told British media that he climbed a fence and jumped in, but police have not confirmed that account.
Witnesses also reported hearing shots during the incident and said black screens were later put up around the enclosure. Neither police nor the park have said what was fired or given any update on the tiger's condition beyond confirming it stayed in the enclosure.
Video that appears to show the attack has been circulating on social media. Police have asked the public not to share it.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park opened in 2009 and its Land of the Tigers exhibit, home to Amur tigers, opened in 2011.
