The IDF said it carried out a precision airstrike near the Syria-Lebanon border on Friday. The target was a Syrian terrorist who, according to the military, was acting under the direction of the Iranian regime against Israeli civilians and soldiers. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit named him as Yusuf Ali al-Hassoun. The military has not said whether he survived.
Israeli forces on the Syrian border were the direct target of his activity. The IDF said that over the past year he planned and advanced attacks on those forces, including attempts to launch explosive drones and rockets at them. The IDF said all of those plots were thwarted.
Ynet reported that, earlier on Friday, Lebanese media described an Israeli drone striking a vehicle in Hosh al-Sayyed Ali. The village is also transliterated as Khush al-Sayyid Ali and lies in the Hermel district of northeastern Lebanon, near the Syrian border. Early casualty reports were inconsistent, and it was not immediately clear whether that strike was the operation the IDF later announced.
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit ended its statement by addressing the northern front:
"The IDF will continue to operate to eliminate immediate threats on all fronts. The IDF remains committed to the agreement between Israel and Lebanon."
