G7 Leaders Urge De-escalation Between Israel and Iran

The leaders of the G7 issued a joint statement today calling for calm amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The message urges both sides to "avoid actions that could further destabilize the region" and reaffirms Israel’s right to defend itself. Critically, the declaration also states unequivocally that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons—a line echoed by Western leaders in recent weeks as Israeli strikes target Tehran’s military infrastructure. However, U.S. President Donald Trump, attending the summit in an observer capacity, declined to sign the statement.
