Golan Leaders Respond to Syria Deal Reports

Following reports of a potential normalization deal between Israel and Syria, Golan Regional Council Head Uri Kelner and Katzrin Mayor Yehuda Doah issued a joint statement emphasizing clear red lines. “We are closely monitoring developments regarding a possible agreement between Israel and Syria. While we welcome any genuine peace initiative, we stress unequivocally: any future deal must include clear recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan, uncompromising protection of Israel’s strategic military advantage in the area, and binding security arrangements that guarantee the safety of all Israeli citizens.” They called on the Israeli government and IDF to “maintain a strong and wide security presence in the Golan and its strategic positions to ensure continued calm and national security.” Highlighting the region’s resilience, the statement added: “The residents of Katzrin and the Golan have bravely withstood rockets, terror, and arson to defend Israel’s northern border. We urge the government to remember this sacrifice and act with resolve to ensure our safety moving forward.”
