Haaretz journalist Josh Breiner commented Wednesday on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision not to grant a reserved spot to Minister Avi Dichter on Likud's list for the upcoming Knesset elections. Dichter, a former director of the Shin Bet security service, has served in various ministerial positions under Netanyahu but was left off the list of candidates receiving automatic placement.
In a pointed social media post, Breiner wrote: "What's truly humiliating? That Avi Dichter, even after turning himself into a doormat, even after humiliating himself for Sara Netanyahu, even after all the flattery, after selling out all values and all friends, even after the slap in the face he received in the primaries, didn't even get protection from Netanyahu yesterday. You were a Shin Bet chief, a respectable person, and today? Today you're a walking disgrace."
Breiner concluded his remarks with an Arabic proverb, referencing Dichter's known fondness for such sayings, roughly translating to: "He who sells his conscience will sell his relatives."
