IDF Major killed in Hezbollah encounter in southern Lebanon Christian village

Major Itamar Sapir, a company deputy commander, was killed in an encounter with a Hezbollah terrorist near Saint Joseph Catholic Church in the Christian village of al-Qouzah, 2.5 km from the Israeli border. The area has been under full Israeli control for over a month. The IDF has avoided extensive destruction of Christian villages in southern Lebanon due to the understanding that they lack active resistance activity and concerns about Israel's international image. Questions remain about how the Hezbollah operative reached the location - whether through new infiltration or by hiding underground before emerging.
