IDF Reaffirms Safe Rooms Are Best Defense - Saves Thousands
Following the tragic death of two Israelis in Petah Tikva when a ballistic missile penetrated a bomb-safe room, the IDF Home Front Command reiterated that secure, reinforced rooms remain the most reliable protection against Iranian missile strikes. The missile, carrying a heavy warhead, directly struck a fourth-floor safe room overnight. Two people inside were killed — a rare and severe outcome. However, residents in identical safe rooms on floors above and below survived without injury. Two other fatalities occurred outside of protected spaces — one in an upper-floor apartment, and one in a nearby building struck by the blast wave. Despite the breach, military officials highlight that thousands of lives have been spared thanks to safe rooms, particularly in newer high-rise buildings constructed to modern standards. The IDF urges the public not to be swayed by isolated incidents and to continue following shelter protocols during alerts.
