Intensive Search Operation Underway for Haredi Man who Disappeared in Sea of Galilee

Israel Police mobilize air and water units to search for Haredi man in his 40s who left belongings at Trapeze Beach and entered Kinneret; sonar and diving teams deployed as search expands.

Israel Police launched an intensive search operation Monday for a Haredi man in his 40s who left his personal belongings at Trapeze Beach and entered the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret), disappearing without trace, according to reports from Israeli public broadcaster KAN News and police statements.

Police received reports early Monday morning that the man had entered the water at Trapeze Beach on the lake's shore. When he did not return, family members contacted emergency services, prompting immediate mobilization of rescue units.

Officers from the Kinneret Maritime Police unit, Northern District Police, and a police helicopter are combing the lake for signs of the missing man. Fire and rescue teams from nearby cities have also been dispatched to assist in the operation, according to police statements released Monday afternoon.

Yosi Oknin, head of United Hatzalah's Tiberias branch, provided updates on search methodology: "At this point we are working with a United Hatzalah rescue boat while operating a sonar system—technology used for navigation, mapping, and detection of objects underwater using sound waves. Updates will follow."

The Kinneret Cities Association is also aiding rescue efforts by providing a supervising boat and drone to assist in locating the missing man, according to KAN News.

The search represents part of a broader pattern of water-related emergencies at the Sea of Galilee, the nation's largest freshwater lake. The lake covers approximately 166 square kilometers and is a major recreation destination during summer months, particularly during heat waves when cooling in the water becomes attractive to residents.

Rescue units are searching the waters and nearby beaches as the operation continues. Police have urged the public to report any information related to the missing man or sightings near Trapeze Beach.
