Israel Clears 1,200 Tons of Gaza Food Aid Through Ashdod

A Panamanian-flagged freighter, HENKE, has arrived at Ashdod carrying 1,200 tons of food destined for Gaza, including 52 containers of pasta, rice, baby food, and canned goods. All cargo was pre-screened by Israeli customs in Limassol, Cyprus, to ensure rapid off-loading and secure transfer. Once ashore, the UN will coordinate trucking while World Central Kitchen manages storage and distribution points, guaranteeing the aid reaches civilians rather than Hamas. Approximately 700 tons of the shipment were purchased by Cyprus using UAE donations via the Amalthea Fund. The remainder comes from Italy, the Maltese government, a Catholic order in Malta, and Kuwait’s Al Salam Association. Cyprus’s Foreign Minister described Gaza’s conditions as “beyond dire,” emphasizing that the sea bridge works because Israel inspects all shipments and routes them through an Israeli port under international supervision.
